What is Microneedling or Collagen Induction Therapy? Microneedling is a technique which uses a specially designed hand-held device to stimulate elastin and collagen production in the skin without causing visible damage. Microneedling promotes the repair of tissue from inside out. The Microneedling device rapidly inserts very small needles no deeper than 0.5mm for cosmetic facial treatments. Microneedling has been shown to be effective in non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of common skin conditions, such as the effects of aging, wrinkles, fine lines, large pores, stretch marks, scarring such as acne and surgical, as well as hyperpigmentation. Microneedling has been shown to be a more effective treatment than dermabrasion and chemical peels for superficial skin conditions. Microneedling is effective at naturally stimulating collagen and elastin production, so, there is typically much less down time following a treatment. Monthly sessions result in firmer, smoother skin, and a more youthful appearance. Microneedling is generally very well tolerated, and not painful. Numbing cream is applied prior to treatment to reduce any unpleasant sensations or discomfort. There may be sensations of vibration and scratching during the treatment. Your practitioner will use a topical anesthetic to numb the skin to make the procedure more comfortable. Often skin will appear reddish for one or two days after treatment. Sunscreen should be used, sun tanning, sunbeds, vigorous exercise should be avoided for 48 hours. After a microneedling treatment the body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin as new collagen is formed; new skin cells are generated and the blood supply is enhanced. It takes about a month to see visible signs of repair and regeneration. Three to Four treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart will generally achieve desired results. Twelve treatments spaced out over a year for the full long lasting effect, which may include Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture and Nanoneedling treatments. Once the body heals it heals. The areas of the face that regenerated can last for many years. Maintenance treatments will be needed from time to time. Age, skin conditions, and general health effect the treatment outcomes.
